Bar Hopping
12/28- Chico CA
The rain let up a bit this afternoon and gave us a chance to get outside for a minute. We visited A’s mom and then came back and decided to go hear some live music.
We left for the first bar which was called the Barn. That is pretty much what it is. It’s a large post and beam structure with a tin roof. The band sets up at one end and they have tables and heaters all through this big open space. One thing that I really like about this is that first the band starts at 5 and runs till 7:30. This is perfect for us geezers. The other is that a lot of people bring their kids. They do serve beer but there are many families here trashing their kids hearing. The band was a little loud and the acoustics were very poor. Usually they have all the doors open and most of this takes place outside.
The next bar was called the Common. The band here was again forced to play inside in a space that couldn’t really accommodate the number of people. They did sound good and were of a more listenable volume. The interesting thing about this bar was the beer. When ready for a beer you picked up an RFID card and the you walked to a series of taps along the wall. The beers were described here and then you swiped your card and poured your own beer. The neat thing was it was sold by the ounce. So you could pour a whole 16oz cup or just 4oz’s. You kept the card until you were ready to leave and they cashed you out. This way you try many different types of beer or even share beers. It was a very interesting way to do it.
Hopefully the rain will wear itself out sometime tomorrow and we can get outside for some calisthenics.
