Allspice Westward

 4/4- Turners Falls MA    Ok here we go with some numbers from this trip. These are preliminary numbers but they should be close.     We were out approximately 90 days and we spent a little over 2 weeks in Chico CA with A’s family. The next longest time we spent was 2 nights at several locations. This is just kind of the way we travel as we try not to travel weekends. Of the 90 days we had less than a handful where the furnace didn’t come on at some point in the night. I think there were only 3 or 4 nights that we could sleep with the windows open. It wasn’t so much that we were cold all the time but night time temps even in the desert usually dropped into the 50’s. We got snowed on quite heavily as we were leaving Chico but it turned to rain after a couple of hours. We did have a couple of tornado watches but nothing happened.  4/3- Turners Falls MA   It was cold rainy and foggy when we departed this morning. We hopped right onto the highway took off on these all to familiar routes. We have traveled this way many times before so it wasn’t too exciting.     We are camped here at my mom’s house for a couple of days so there is not much to report on. I will try to put some numbers together tomorrow.  Thanks to all my faithful readers and I wish you all a happy Easter and a great spring. 

 4/2- Jam Room Brewing Company, Greenwood PA   Who turned off the heat?? Yesterday it was in the 80’s and today will hardly make 50 degrees. We woke up to the thud of rain drops hitting the roof. Of course it could be the acorns also. The radar showed no rain but when I stepped outside I was immediately covered with water. Last night we slept with the windows open for the first time in a month — until morning.     We headed over to the visitor center at Gettysburg which was nice but to tell the truth we were pretty much over the. Civil War by now. It was cold and misting so that negated much chance of a walk. I guess it was time to hit the road.     From this point on we will be driving mostly if not exclusively on interstates. We managed to make it through Harrisburg without much trouble and then turned north once again where we ran into some heavy fog. Route 81 in Pennsylvania should win the prize this trip for the most trash on the side of the ...

 4/1- Gettysburg Campground, Gettysburg PA    We came down out of the mountains and headed for Maryland. Who would have thought that Maryland had actual mountains. We cruised down long downhill runs only to be faced with an equally long uphill slog. We crossed the Eastern continental divide- again. We must have crossed that 3 or 4 times already but I’m hoping this will be the last for a while.      The hills gradually leveled out and we drove through much more pasture with really green grass. Finally we got to Gettysburg and after driving across this town I’m ready to leave it. It’s a nice place with lots of old closely packed buildings. I have always liked the small alleyways between the buildings usually leading to some backyard. The traffic was insane though and this on a Wednesday in April.
