Almost numbers
4/4- Turners Falls MA
Ok here we go with some numbers from this trip. These are preliminary numbers but they should be close.
We were out approximately 90 days and we spent a little over 2 weeks in Chico CA with A’s family. The next longest time we spent was 2 nights at several locations. This is just kind of the way we travel as we try not to travel weekends. Of the 90 days we had less than a handful where the furnace didn’t come on at some point in the night. I think there were only 3 or 4 nights that we could sleep with the windows open. It wasn’t so much that we were cold all the time but night time temps even in the desert usually dropped into the 50’s. We got snowed on quite heavily as we were leaving Chico but it turned to rain after a couple of hours. We did have a couple of tornado watches but nothing happened. We had mostly fine weather until we got back east with only a few nights of rain.
Ok here we go: diesel fuel we paid $2660 which got worse as the prices skyrocketed past even California levels. Fortunately we achieved 20 mpg quite often. We put about 12000 miles on the van again this year.
Campground fees were $3220 which is close to $ 1200 a month for rent. We used Harvest Hosts as much as we could which are great. We didn’t use Walmarts or Cracker Barrel’s at all but used BLM lands and other free spots. The average campsite was around $50 with full hookups. The highest one was $110 a night which was definitely not worth it.
We dined out occasionally to the time of $907. This would include stays at some Harvest Hosts. We stocked up on groceries for $1317 to fuel us for our adventures.
The van performed beautifully again as we spent only $1409 on maintenance. This would include servicing by Mercedes in CA. We did have a flat tire along side the road which cost us $300 for someone to come out and change it as I couldn’t get the nuts off. Insurance paid us back almost immediately. The rest is probably for DEF as we really had no other problems.
We still have some traveling to do tomorrow and we have to navigate our road to get to the house. So far it was another great trip.
