Freezing
12/9- Grand Canyon National Park
We departed this morning while the sun was just breaching the horizon. We wanted to get an early jump to spend more time in the park. As this was my first time here the anticipation was building as we approached. After parking and checking in etc etc we finally walked over to the rim. If you have ever been here then you know just how spectacular it is. Words are inadequate to describe the wonder.
The thing that got me though is the steepness and how close to edge you are. I am nervous around heights. I can usually force myself to handle it but it makes me uncomfortable. Just watching people clamber over railings and lean over precipices makes me cringe. It amazing to me that there aren’t all kinds of guard rails and stuff to keep people back from the edge.
Anyway we hiked around a bit on the trail around the rim and then had lunch. After lunch we went to hike down the trail that leads to the bottom. We didn’t get far as it was carved right out of the edge with no guard rails. Rounding some of the corners was an exercise in wall hugging.
It is supposed to get down into the low teens tonight. I was concerned about freezing a pipe so we dumped all our water and opened all the faucets. We do have a furnace so I hope it continues to function all night. We will head to a campground tomorrow that will hopefully be warmer and will refill our water tank.
Yay! Grand Canyon is THE BEST‼️
