Rain
12/14- Morro Bay CA
We woke up to rain and howling wind. I’m thinking what’s the deal here. This is supposed to be sunny Southern California. Apparently it does occasionally rain here though by noon the sun was out and the skies clear.
We had planned a lay day here just to take a break from moving. This is a nice place to do it. We went for several walks on the beach, one at high tide and one at low. The beach is huge. Once you get out of the dunes it’s probably 150 yards to the water at low tide and I suspect it is not very deep just off the beach. It’s wide and flat and very few rocks or shells. The tide is only 6 feet but at high tide it’s probably only 10 yards to the water.
We watched some sea otters playing around as well as some noisy sea lions. We were kind of surprised to see pelicans. We did see a group of white pelicans as they were fishing in the weeds just off the shore.
This has been a good place to spend a couple of days. It feels like we were back cruising on the boat and anchored here. It felt just like being in a port.
Most of the boats here are long distance cruisers. There are very few ports on this coast and if you head off shore you have to be prepared to go a long way.
