Sea side

12/16- San Lorenzo Park, King City CA

I had a very restless time last night. We were camped literally seaside. The van shuddered from the crash of the surf. I know folks think that the sound of waves breaking is relaxing. I did too , that is until I became a sailor. Hearing breaking waves on your sailboat means danger is near as land is the enemy. It turns out that last night was a full moon and so the high tide was also a king tide and it brought the waves that much closer to us. Fortunately we had about 15 yards of parking lot before the waves washed over us. This morning, at high tide, the waves were crashing onto the rocks at the edge of the parking lot. So needless to say with the sound of the waves that close and that loud I didn’t get a lot of sleep.

I was getting tired of some of these mountain roads in my top heavy motor home so we opted to take the 101 the whole way today. We had picked a spot about 200 miles away to spend the night. This spot is San Lorenzo Park.

This is a really nice place with all kinds of interesting trees surrounding us. There are live oaks and huge eucalyptus trees along with towering sycamores. The park has a large collection of antique tractors and farm equipment. It also has an irrigation museum which unfortunately (?) was closed.

The eucalyptus trees were amazing. They were planted years ago to be a quick growing source of lumber but it turned out the  boards checked and warped too much to use. There are trees here that 3 people could not reach around. The collection and size of the trees here make this a very unusual and pleasant stopping place.

At least there will be no waves breaking next door tonight!
