We took our time leaving this morning mostly because the windshield didn’t need to be scraped. It was a balmy 29 so almost a heat wave. I shouldn’t complain you people on boats are probably freezing like I was last year. Now I have a furnace!!
Anyway we headed down Rt 81 again. We were tempted to detour to the Blue Ridge Parkway but they had ice warnings out and some sections were to be closed. We decided on discretion.
The highway was still a very pretty ride. The road wound through steep mountain sides and deep dark valleys. We definitely saw some cold dark hollers in them hills. It’s still a little depressing with the trees all bare. It would be great to see this place when it was all green and full of life. At least now you can see a little more. I always liked the spring and fall at home because you can see the lay of the land through the trees.
Back on the road traffic was not quite as bad as yesterday. When the big semi’s blow by it reminds me of being waked by power boats. You feel the push of the wind and then the sky is blotted out by the trailer and then when it pulls in front of you you ride on the wash of its air wake.
We got to our planned stop for the evening by 2pm so we decided to push on. That brought us into Knoxville and the traffic stopped. Google told me that there was a 15 minute delay but I was on the fastest route. I’d hate to see the delays on some of the other routes 😀. We backed in to another Cracker Barrel and tied up for the night.
We had hoped to do some hiking or at least walking but it has been too cold and windy to hang out outdoors. At least we are putting some miles behind us and hopefully it will get warmer sooner.
