Whaler

 12/15- Hodson Beach, Ventura CA

We headed further down the coast this morning navigating a bit of fog on the road. We went down another of these winding narrow steep roads. There were some scary parts to this one. In particular there was one bridge we went over that didn’t have a bottom underneath it. We survived only to be thrust into the traffic of Santa Barbara. The price of gas around here is astronomical but it really doesn’t seem to phase anybody. We just paid $7 / gal for diesel and at many of the stations diesel is cheaper than gas.

We arrived at the Channel Islands Maritime Museum in Oxnard where we met up with our old dear friend the Mystic Whaler. This is the new home port of the Whaler and we met and chatted with her new captain Christine. They have done a lot of work to the boat getting it ready to do some educational sailing. It was great to get back on board on walk the deck again.

We left there for our campground for the night at Hodson Beach. This campground is right on the ocean. The spray from the waves crashing on the rocks is drifting over the rv as we speak. We watched the sunset hoping to catch the green flash. Someone here also mentioned there was a blue flash you can see but mostly in the summer. As we were watching someone else told us about a rocket launch which we could see. I guess it’s from Vandenburg. We could see the contrails quite clearly. So now we’ve seen rocket launches from both coasts.

Tomorrow we start heading back north as we are way too close to LA for my liking.
