Alpacas

 3/2- Lake City TX

We woke the last couple of mornings to an unusual event— fog. Yesterday the fog rolled in and then out again an hour later. Today it didn’t get much further either but it was unusual to see fog at all in this very dry climate.

We drove to Lake Corpus Christi state park for a hike as our check in time wasn’t until 2. This is a very nice facility. Everything is modern and well kept. The lake is again formed by a dam and is down probably 20 feet due to drought. We had a nice couple mile walk through a mesquite forest. Some of the trees are blossoming with these tiny yellow balls of a flower. I don’t know what kind of tree it is but I can tell you it has plenty of thorns.

We pulled into our campsite for the night which was another Harvest Host site. This time it is an Alpaca farm. We are camped all by ourselves back in the north 40. It’s not that far but it is really nice. They have about 20 alpacas here with sheep and chickens. They have this 7 year old Tom turkey that came out to greet us all fluffed up strutting his stuff. He was really putting on a show for us. The rooster did not stop crowing until the sun went down. I’m sure he will let us know when it’s time to get up in the morning. We did purchase some nice alpaca items.

It was very windy today and the van had plenty of weather helm driving down the road. It should be interesting tomorrow heading to the ocean with the wind blowing onshore.
