Jasper
3/7- Sandy Creek campground Jasper TX
It was a short and relatively uninteresting drive this morning. It was more about finding decent cell service than anything else. It was all back roads with lots of turns. There would be no way I could recreate this route as Siri was in charge today and I was along for the ride.
The campsite is an Army Corps of Engineers site which means it is a federal site and my pass will work. We drove about 2 miles into this bayou to find a beautiful campground on the shore of a large lake. There were full hook ups and picnic tables with covers on every site. The sites are well spaced and are pavement.
We had thought that getting here early we would get a hike in but unfortunately the water is really high in the lake. The campground is just about at lake level so if you don’t walk on the pavement you are probably walking in water. It looked like a true bayou and I expected to see alligators along the road. Still it’s a nice site if it doesn’t rain.
This should hopefully be our last night in Texas as we venture into Louisiana next. The weather looks like rain tomorrow so hopefully that will wash some of the dust off of Ms Allspice.
