3/12- Port St Jo FL, Presnell Rv Park

We thought we would be clever this morning and take a more scenic route that would be close to the water. Well I don’t know whose idea of scenic this was but it was not mine. We drove 130 miles of pure crass commercialism. The highway was lined with all the national brands like Walmart, Home Depot, Target etc etc. When after 20 miles or so and they ran out of brand name stores they just started repeating them. I think we see a Dollar General or Waffle House every third revolution of our tires. We crawled along in heavy traffic through hundreds of traffic lights. We tried a couple of times to turn off and see the beach but each time traffic or mobs of people convinced us to turn around. Even if we had gotten through to the beach it was $20 to park. Of course it was spring break and we saw loads of college age kids walking down the streets.

We did find a state park that let us park for $4 and we walked to a really nice beach. At that point it was good just to get out of the van.

We crossed back into Eastern time just before we arrived so we are sitting on the border. This keeps the phones on their toes trying to guess the correct time.

We are at Presnell’s Marina in Port St Jo which is near the bump on the south side of Florida’s panhandle. Cape San Blas it’s called. The marina is nice and we watched the sun set over the Gulf of Mexico in a beautiful sunset. We are going to hang here for a day and visit with our friends Pat and John and Lilly too.
