Lowndesboro
1/12- Praire Creek Campground , Lowndesboro, AL
We gained an hour this morning or at least it sorta felt like it. We crossed into Alabama and with that we entered Central Standard Time.
It was a pretty nice drive today passing through some more of Georgia’s lovely countryside. We have noticed that we pass by almost as many churches as Dollar General’s. Some are plain unassuming buildings but others are just huge. Must be some money in religion.
We have also noticed something that seems strange to us but apparently is not so strange here. There are these odd little cemetery’s sometimes just along side the road or in someone’s side yard and they could have a half dozen plots or 100 graves. They almost seem like an afterthought or as Alayne thinks they are just old family grave sites from back in the day. The one thing that I have found odd about them is there is rarely a fence around them. I’m just kind of used to seeing cemetery’s be delineated somehow.
Our campsite tonight is an Army Corp of Engineers site. These tend to be near lakes or rivers and this one is no exception. We are parked right on the water of the Alabama River, in fact I think the bikes might hang over the water. We even have our own dock! This is a gorgeous facility with full hook ups and concrete pads for next to nothing. The area is very well maintained and is quite pretty even without leaves on the trees. I have come to appreciate these COE campgrounds as being top of the line but not very well known.
It was chilly this morning with temps in the 20’s but it eventually warmed up to around 60. Tonight will cool down into the lower thirties.
