Maintenance

1/30- Farmhouse Bakery, Yuba City CA

We got off to an early start today as we were bringing the van in for some service work. The Mercedes dealer in Sacramento is one of the few around here that will work on rv’s. It’s really a nice place and they are very friendly but it comes at a cost. It was good to get it done and everything checked out nicely.

On the way out there was some road closure and Siri had us driving down some serious back roads. We were in amongst the flooded rice fields for much of it.

Once we got back on the highway again we were cruising along when the van began to struggle. Turns out we blew a tire and had to pull off the road. Fortunately there was a wide gravel pullout so we weren’t on the highway. Now I had to change the tire. I managed to get the spare out of its hanger but I could not undo the nuts on the wheel. The jack and tire kit looked like it had never been used as it was still in the original packaging. We finally succumbed to the idea we needed to call some one. This turned into an ordeal as the woman wanted my address and I had no idea where I was not to mention a raft of inane questions. Anyway the guy came and 10 minutes later he had the spare on and we were driving away.

The site for tonight is a bakery which was only 5 miles from where we broke down. There were plenty of treats in that store to tempt me. It was a day that certainly had its ups and downs. We head into Chico tomorrow where we will be for a couple of weeks. I hope to continue writing as long as I can fill the page so stay tuned…
