Snow arrrghh
2/19- Merced Elks Lodge RV Park, Merced CA
We heard from Alayne’s sister in Paradise this morning and they had about 6” of snow there. It was still raining when we left but it soon turned to all snow. The road were fine but visability was limited. It snowed pretty hard on us until we got almost to Maryville where it lightened up. Looking up in the hills and the buttes were all covered in snow.
Nearing Sacramento the sun even came out. I have never seen this area look so green. Usually it is baked brown when I pass through here. Still the grass on the side of the road could only be described as spring green it was such a vibrant color. There was plenty of water flooding a lot of the fields which was mostly ok as there were many rice paddies. We passed acre upon acre of almond trees in full bloom. It is a little concerning because if the wind and snow knock the flowers off there will be no almonds.
After Sacramento the wind really picked up and was buffeting the van all over the place. The rather rough road didn’t help and neither did the wall to wall traffic.
It was a nice sunny day when we pulled into the campground. We visited here last year and the thing we remembered most was the oranges. They have several types of orange trees around the campground and they encouraged us to take as many as we want. Last year we only took a few but they were so good we were bummed we didn’t take more. We won’t make that mistake this year. The tangerines are amazing!!
We could be heading into more snow tomorrow as we climb to 4000 feet. It will certainly be much colder tomorrow night. Brrrr already
